Know Your Sh*t ("the app") is a learning app for engineering knowledge, operated by Emircomp LLC ("we", "us"). We collect what we need to run your account, track your progress and grade your answers. We do not show ads, we do not sell or rent your data, and we do not use it to track you across other apps or websites.
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account identifier | A random user ID created when you sign up. Needed to save your progress. |
| Email address | If you sign in with email, or the email your sign-in provider shares. Used to send one-time sign-in codes and to answer support requests. Never used for marketing. |
| Sign-in provider info | If you use GitHub, Google or Sign in with Apple, we receive the basic identifier and email the provider shares (with Apple you may choose to hide your email). We never see your passwords. |
| Profile photo | Your GitHub or Google avatar if you sign in with them, or a photo you upload in Settings. Shown next to your username on the leaderboard. |
| Purchases | If you subscribe, Apple handles payment. We receive your subscription status (plan, renewal and expiry dates) through RevenueCat. We never see your card details. |
| Profile | Username (shown on the leaderboard), goal, experience level, chosen tracks, daily XP goal, theme and time zone (so streak days match your local day). |
| Learning activity | Your answers (choices, flashcard self-ratings and the text you type for "explain it" questions), scores, XP, streaks, per-topic skill ratings, spaced-repetition schedule and session history. |
| Crash reports | If crash reporting is enabled in the build, technical diagnostics when the app crashes or hits an error (device model, OS version, app version, stack trace). No names, emails or answer text are attached on purpose. |
We do not collect your contacts, location, advertising identifier or browsing history.
Some features use an AI model to grade free-text answers and to answer follow-up questions. When you use them, we send the question, its grading rubric, the explanation you typed and any follow-up messages you write to our AI provider, Anthropic, which returns feedback. We do not send your email, username or other profile data with these requests. Anthropic processes this data on our behalf and, under its commercial terms, does not use it to train its models. Please do not type personal information into answers.
These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. We only share what each one needs to do its job.
Streak reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device at the time you choose. They are off until you turn them on, and no push token or device identifier is sent to us. You can turn them off in the app or in your phone's settings.
Your username and profile photo appear on the leaderboard with your XP and streak. Other users can report or block usernames; reported names may be hidden. Your email, answers and other activity are never shown to other users.
We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data — profile, progress, answers and leaderboard entries — from our database. Crash reports are retained by Sentry for a limited period (typically 90 days) and then deleted.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Most of this you can do in the app; for anything else, email us. We will respond within 30 days.
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Database access is restricted per user with row-level security, and correct answers are never sent to the app before you answer. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
